There are several good names on the ballot this year for the MLB Hall of Fame. There are three names that are on the ballot this year that have a great chance at making the Hall this year, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and John Smoltz. There is also three names that have been around a couple years that have a good chance at making it as well, Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza, and Curt Schilling.
With no doubt Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez will get the 75% of the votes to make it in the Hall Of Fame. It is no doubt because, Randy Johnson is a 5 time Cy Young Award winner, a 9 time All Star, won 303 games, had a career 3.29 ERA, and 4,875 strike outs. Johnson's numbers are ridiculously good, and make him a first ballot Hall of Famer. Pedro Martinez is an 8 time All Star, 3 time Cy Young Award winner, won 219 games, had a 2.93 ERA, and 3,154 strikeouts. Those numbers will make him worth of the first ballot Hall of Fame induction.
People look at a eight to ten year span of dominating numbers, that put them in an elite class. Both Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez did just that and will make it an easy decision to put them in the Hall of Fame. The third person to get elected to the Hall of Fame this year is going to be a little trickier. I know where my vote would go, and that is to Curt Schilling. Schilling won 216 games with a 3.46 ERA, with 3,116 strike outs, and was a 6 time All-Star. Schilling has the eight dominate years they are just broken up due to injuries. The numbers are good, but what really makes Schilling worthy is what he did in the postseason. He went 11-2 with a 2.23 ERA, started 19 games, 133.1 innings, and 120 strike outs. Schilling was the man in the post season, won the MVP in the post season twice. I understand he never won a Cy Young, and had injuries. That is holding him back right now, but his numbers in the post season with the career he had in the regular season makes him a hall of famer in my book.
I think the voters will choose John Smoltz as the third person to get into the Hall of Fame. Smoltz is an 8 time All-Star, won 213 games, a 3.33 ERA, 3,064 strike outs, and won a Cy Young award. He also had a great post season with a career 15-4 record, 2.67 ERA, 27 starts, 209 innings, and 199 strike outs. He also pitched in one of the most famous post season games in 1991 against the Twins, and Morris. With Smoltz resume i believe the voters will give him the nod, and he will make it to the Hall of Fame.
