The Boston Red Sox have finally nailed the highly coveted Cuban prospect Yoan Moncada to a recording setting deal bonus of 31.5 million dollars. This destroys the previous record set this offseaon by Loan Lopez, which was for 8.27 million dollars. Moncada is 22 years old, 6 foot tall, and 210 pounds. Why everyone is freaking out about Moncada is he brings the talent of a rare five tool athlete. He doesn't have a lot of experience to go on, but when you watch him play you can see why so many people wanted him. Boston doesn't really have room for him on their lineup right now, but he is plays good in the minors it won't be long until he gets called up.
The Dodgers add a couple more questionable arms to their starting rotation. They just signed Brandon Beachy, and Dustin McGowan. Beachy has been struggling with injuries since he has been in the Majors. He has shown some very good potential to be a solid major league starter, but Tommy John Surgery keeps getting in his way. In 2011 Beachy starter 25 games, and put up some solid numbers before getting hurt that following year. The guy has great potential, if he could stay on the field. The same thing could be said for Dustin McGowan, he has shown plenty on potential, but cannot stay on the field. 2007 was his best season, where he started 27 games, but after that went down hill. I guess the Dodgers thought that if they got enough broken arms with potential that one of them will work out.
The Tigers re-sign Joba Chamberlain to a one year deal. Once he was one of the biggest prospects in the game for the Yankees. Unfortunately the Yankees tried to make him a starter, which was not the job for him. After that Joba struggled to get comfortable in the bullpen. Finally, last season Joba showed some life in that arm in the bullpen for the Detroit Tigers. He finished with a 3.57 ERA, 59 strike outs in 63 innings pitched. He isn't going to light up the radar anymore, but he showed some promise in the bullpen last year, enough to give him another shot in a below average bullpen.
