The most recent moves

Things have started to slow down for the Padres who hadn't made a trade in nine days before Monday. On Monday the Padres trade with the Yankees for reliever Shawn Kelley, and the Yankees received double-AA prospect Johnny Barbato. Kelley had his career most appearences last year for the Yankees with 59, and finished with a record of 3-6, with a 4.53 ERA. Kelley is young, and a good piece for the Padres bullpen. Kelley has a career 10.0 srikeout to walk ratio, which is impressive in the AL East. I think the ERA will go down pitching in a bigger ballpark in San Diego. Another move made to strengthen the Padres team, and now we wait to see if they can make the trade for Cole Hammels.

The Tampa Bay Rays have shocked me by landing short stop Asdrubal Cabrera. They signed him for a one year contract worth 8 million dollars. Asdrubal has been a short stop his whole career until the trade to the Nationals last year, where he was playing second base. He finished the year with a .241 average, 14 home runs, and 61 RBI's. Asdrubal peaked in the 2011-2012 season where he showed the rare shortstop power collecting a combined 41 home runs. I am not really sure where he fits, but you can be sure the Rays will be making a move. Second basemen, and utility player Ben Zobrist is the best trade option they have to offer. Yunel Escobar is the short stop coming off a bad season, which would make him harder to trade. There is a possibility they keep both and move Zobrist to the outfield. I would guess they will make a move to free up room for Asdrubal to play everyday short stop for the Rays next season.

The Dodgers made a move to strengthen their bullpen by signing former closer Sergio Santos. Santos is coming off an injury plagued season, and really hasn't been what the Blue Jays were expecting. In three years Santos has a comined 61 appearances, which a good reliever would get in one season. Santos looked great in 2013, before an injury ended his season. In 2011 Santos broke out for the Chicago White Sox finishing with a 3.55 ERA, 30 saves, 92 strikeouts, and 63.1 innings pitched. If he can stay healthy, he has proven to be a great pitcher. I don't know if I like this pick for the dodger, because its a huge risk they hash;t paid off for them before. The Dodgers seem to like signing former closers, such as, Chris Perez, Brain Wilson, and Brandon League who haven't panned out for them. This seems to be another one of those moves, and I really don't expect much out of Santos in that division.
