They are not done yet!

The Miami Marlins are not done yet. They have traded Garret Jones, Nathan Eovaldi, and a single A minor league pitcher. They have received David Phelps, and Martin Prado from the New York Yankees. This is a win-win trade for both teams, for they both get something they need. The Marlins were truly looking to improve that infield, and with the recent trade to the Yankees. Prado is an overall good player, he can get on base, drive in runs, play defense, and bring a good presence in the club house. He is a veteran utility player that brings a certain fire and passion that any team would want to have on their teams. David Phelps has only been in the league three years, and hasn't had the opportunity to blossom in a Yankees uniform. Phelps has shown some potential, but I don't see him being better than a 4 spot in a pitching rotation.

The Yankees got exactly what they were looking for in this trade, but I am not sure Eovaldi will pitch good in the American League. Eovaldi is a hard throwing youngster who got his career most starts last year. He finished with a 6-14 record, 4.37 ERA, and a career most 233 hits in 199.2 innings pitched. Those numbers would suggest that going to the American League, where hitting is better, and he will be pitching in a short porch ballpark. He throws hard, has electric stuff, and is still young so there is potential he can be a good pitcher in this league. The Yankees acquired first basemen Garret Jones in the trade who will bring good depth behind Mark Teixeira who cannot seem to play a full season. The Single-A pitcher they got throws gas, and will bring good depth to their minor league system.

The Marlins decided to part ways with third basemen Casey McGehee, and trade him to the Giants for some minor league pitchers. The Marlins were looking to build the minors up a little bit, while the Giants are trying to fill the void left by Pablo Sandoval. McGehee had a great year after returning from Japan. In 2013 McGehee went to Japan to play baseball, and we know the Japanese League in known for their contact hitters. When McGehee returned from Japan he returned a solid contact hitter, and before he left he was a struggling power hitter. I don't think he will fill the shoes of Sandoval, but he will bring around the same numbers in the regular season. Giants also decided to resign veteran pitcher Jake Peavy to a two year contract. I think this was a smart move for both Jake and the Giants. Jake pitched much better in the national league last year, and thats what lead the Giants to resigning him. The Giants still think he has something left in the tank, and I agree. This guy is a winner,  a good competitor, and still only 33 years old.

The Royals needed to add to their starting rotation with the lose of their ace James Shields. Edison Volquez had a great come back year with the Pirates last year, but I think it has more to do with the pitching coach Ray Searage. I don't think Edison will put up the same numbers in a tough American League Central Division. The second pitcher they got was former ace of the Atlanta Braves in 2013 Kris Medlen. He is the kind of guy you root for, because in spring training last year Kris had to get his second Tommy John surgery. It was real painful to see him fight his way back to the top to only go back down after the surgery. If he can stay healthy, and shake off the rust he could be a steal for the Royals, but there are a lot of "ifs' in there.
