Texas Trades for Gallardo

Rangers
Yovani Gallardo

Brewers
Corey Knebel
Luis Sardinas
Marcos Diplan

I believe this is a questionable move for the Brewers. The Texas Rangers are trading low end prospects for a number 2 or 3 starter in the rotation. The Brewers starting pitching needed help before they traded away Gallardo, and now they need another starter more than ever. This move would open up room for the Brewers to sign a guy like James Shields. The National League Central has very strong pitching on every team now that the Cubs have signed Jon Lester. The Brewers don't want to fall behind in debatebly the best division in baseball.

Corey Knebel was the 8th ranked prospect in the Texas organization. His potential is looking to land him in the back end of the bullpen. Marcos Diplan is only 18 years old, and with so much talent at a young age, you can expect good things. Luis Sardinas is the best player the Brewers received in this trade. Sardinas has a great chance at becoming a teams everyday shortstop. It is always good to get three prospects for one player, but the prospects the Brewers got aren't helping them this year. They need to replace Gallardo with someone better, which could be James Shields. The other thing is, the Brewers need to build up their bullpen.

Texas needed to add a high end starter to their injury prone starting rotation. Gallardo is just what they needed, a guy that has pitched 180 innings 6 years in a row. He is a work horse, and will give them the innings they are looking for. The only problem is Gallardo has normal had a higher ERA then you would like in the National League. He did finish with his career low in ERA last season with a 3.51 ERA, went 8-11 in 32 starts. The numbers are good, considering he plays in one of the harder divisions. I see Gallardo filling the innings the Rangers need, but might have a higher ERA than they would like.
