Which big name pitcher will the Cardinals get?

It has been announced that the Cardinals plan to add one big name pitcher before the season starts. That means four names are out there, two being free agents, and the other two would be a trade. The free agents are Max Scherzer, and James Shields. I am going to have to say that both these guys are the least likely to be in a Cardinals uniform next season. James Shields is too old for the Cardinals, and honestly doesn't make their starting rotation that much better, so it wouldn't be worth the money. Max Scherzer is asking for a kings ransom, which the Cardinals never sign that big of a contract. Remember they let their franchise player, Albert Pujols, go because they could do more with that money, which they did. The Cardinals still have a few young guys to pay in the future, so I don't see the Cardinals making a move for Scherzer.

What makes the most sense is for the Cardinals to add a dominate lefty to the starting rotation. The two lefties available are Cole Hammels, and Dvid Price. Cole Hammels is going to cost the most, literally, because he has four years 96 million dollars left on his contract. In addition to that the Phillies are going to want some top prospects in the trade. The Cardinals aren't big on traded their last remaining prospects. That would leave one more that makes the most sense, and would cost the Cardinals the least. Price is only got one year left on his contract, which means he won't cost as much player wise. They wouldn't have to give up their best prospects, and that would leave room for Max Scherzer to resign with the Tigers. I believe the Cardinals will have one of these big name pitchers. I would like to see Cole Hammels get signed for the fact the Cardinals would have control over him the next four years, and he is a dominate left handed starter. Price is the short-run move, and Cole Hammels is the long term deal.
