It has been reported that the Arizona Diamondbacks have landed the right handed Cuban prospect Yoan Lopez for a record setting 8.27 million dollar bonus. There were multiple teams interested in the young Cuban, such as, the Dodgers, Padres, and Yankees. Lopez believes that Arizona was the best fit for him, and would be the quickest road to the MLB. He will more than likely get an invite to spring training where everyone can get a look at him.
Lopez is 24 years old, 6'4, 190 pounds, and throws right handed. He has four pitches a cut fastball, change-up, curveball, and slider. He is known for his fastball than can hit 96 mph, and he normally stays in the mid-90's when he is pitching. Lopez played three seasons in the top Cuban League, and in his final season had a 3.12 era, with 28 strikeouts, 11 walks in 49 innings pitched. The young right hander would have to do something impressive to make the starting rotation, and will more than likely spend a year in the minors.
