Dalton Pompey has been my favorite guy to watch so far this spring training. Pompey is 22 years old, and has been giving is first chance to start in center field for the Toronto Blue Jays. So far he has not disappointed anyone on his potential. He has started off solid at the plate where he has 3 hits, and one of them being a double. In his first game he got a single, and showed off his speed by stealing second base, then eventually scoring a run. Pompey has also been flashing the leather in center field with a couple of nice catches, showing his range in center field.
Pedro Alvarez had a great game yesterday where he drove in 4 runs. He started it off by hitting a opposite field three run home run that looked effortless. He also smacked a double in the game which drove in another RBI. Alvarez struggled at the dish last year, and it is good to see he has worked on some of those things this off-season. Speaking of power, did anyone see the Royals game yesterday? They went on a rampage smacking home-runs left, and right scoring 13 runs against the Rangers. At won point the Royals hit back-to-back-to-back home-runs, which tells you that the line-up is feeding off each other, which is a good thing.
How about the two pitching prospects that were raising some eye brows yesterday. First, Colorado Rockies number one prospect Jon Grey made his appearance, and was dominant. At one point he was hitting triple digits on his fast ball, which blew people away. He pitched two innings, racking up a pair of strike outs, and no runs. People keep an eye out for this guy, he is young, has a cannon, and is hungry to play in the big leagues. The other pitcher was involved in the Red Sox and D'Backs trade. Rubby De La Rosa came to Arizona, along with another prospect, for Wade Miley, and it looked like a good trade yesterday. Rubby started the game, and pitched two strong innings. He had two strike outs, no runs, and no walks. He showed that he is going to be making room for him self at the top of the D'Backs pitching rotation.
