Spring Training Updates

A lot of number one pitchers were out on the bump yesterday. Matt Harvey, to me, was the most impressive because he hasn't played in more than a year. Harvey pitched 2 perfect innings with 3 strike outs. He was hitting 97 MPH consistently, and his curve ball looked sharp. The other big pitcher to pitch for the Mets was their number one prospect Noah Syndergaard who didn't have such a good outing. He pitched 2 innings giving up 2 runs and 2 walks. He struggled with his command, but the good news is there is plenty more chances to shake off the rust.

White Sox college prospect that they drafted last year made his debut for the injured Chris Sale. He had a terrific outing as he pitched 2 innings striking out 4 batters. His control with his fast ball was perfect, and his slider looked good. The only other thing he needs to work on is developing that change-up, he said that he only threw 1 the entire 2 innings. Lets go to the other side of Chicago and look at the Cubs. Jon Lester made his debut for the Cubs this spring training, and had a solid outing. He pitched 2 innings striking out 3 batters. He was in control of all his pitches, and are giving the Cubs some hope to making the playoffs this year.

How about some offensive of players who stood out yesterday. Alex Rios stood out the most to me yesterday as he went 3-4, with a double, home run, and 3 RBI's. Rios has been hitting really good this spring training so far, which is a good sign for he struggled a little last season. Freddie Freeman went 2-3 yesterday with a home run, a double, 2 runs, and 3 RBI's. Freddie Freeman is the last man standing on that team, which makes him the face of the franchise. There is a lot of pressure on him, but a good spring training will give him and his team some confidence.

Joc Pederson the top prospect for the Dodgers had a nice day yesterday as he went 2-3 with a double, 2 runs, and 1 RBI. If Pederson keeps up this production all pre-season, he will make it difficult for the coaching staff, because he is the only true center fielder on the team. If Pederson starts that puts Crawford or Either on the bench, which will not make anyone of them happy.

Finally, Yu Darvish got that MRI on his bicep yesterday, and it came back with bad news. Darvish has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. They haven't decided what they want to do about it, and have decided to get a second opinion. This would be devastating to Texas who has had trouble keeping their pitchers healthy these last couple years.
