Trade Update

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for minor leaguer Sam McWilliams. The Phillies have made it clear that they want to add veteran pitching this offseason. Hellickson is 28 years old and has played 6 seasons in the major leagues. In 2011, Hellickson won the rookie of the year award, finishing with a 13-10 record,  a 2.95 ERA, and 117 strike-outs in 29 starts, for the Tampa Rays. Hellickson didn't stop there, and finished the following 2012 season very well. He finished with a 10-11 record, 3.10 ERA, 124 strike-outs, 31 starts, and won the Gold Glove for a starting pitcher. Hellickson had a very promising start to his young career. The past three seasons have been a struggle for Hellickson though, finishing with a plus 4.00 ERA and giving up a lot of hard contact. The Phillies trade for him hoping he can find himself this year, before entering the free agency following the 2016 season. Sam McWilliams is the man the Phillies traded for Hellickson. McWilliams was drafted in the 8th round back in 2014, and was currently the Phillies 27th overall prospect. The D'backs aren't getting much return in this trade, because McWilliams hasn't done much in his two years of rookie ball. He hasn't a high draft pick, he wasn't a high ranked prospect, and he wasn't a good trade for the D'backs.
